4ever Discovering
Fulong beach:
Hop on the train, buy a floaty, and get a beach day in.
Make your way to one of the railroad/MRT stops (Taipei Main or Banqiao) and buy a ticket to Fulong Beach. You can either get on the passenger train (you can use your Easy Card) or you can get reserved seats. Reserved seating is more pricey by 20 NT ;), but it guarantees you a seat on the 1 hour and half train ride… The passenger train is 80 NT.
Fulong is located directly North of Taipei. Once you get out of the beach, you have many things to choose from… you can rent a bike for around 100 NT, you can just go and relax on the beach, or you can walk around and explore.

Our first time there, we simply relaxed with our feet in the golden sand. We purchased 2 floaties, one was a watermelon, and one was a donuts for about 500 NT. We tried to get on the beach just by going straight down. IT DOESN’T WORK. You have to cross the bridge, in order to use the Fulong beach, you need to pay 100 NT to the Hotel. They maintain the place and have lifeguards. There is a swimming area- (you cannot swim outside of the swimming area) and sometimes it’s legit a 10x10 feet big because of the undertow. While, we were swimming, Danielle swears she had a crab crawl and chill on her stomach, she freaked out “a little” so beware of those little creatures and don’t go screaming in the ocean- I thought it was a shark attack and was already running towards the sand. There are lifeguards, umbrellas, and volleyballs nets.
Things to bring: bathing suit, water, sunblock, sunnies, camera, floaty, towel, volleyball, and frisbee?

The second time we went to the beach, we biked 20 km circle along the ocean on a bike path! (It’s a really nice bike path!!) You start the bike ride by going through a tunnel that was built back when the Japanese had control. Then, you make your way pass many lookout points, where you can stop and grab a traditional lunchbox. We brought a Caesar salad from Costco and enjoyed in with a view of turtle island. Our bike rentals came with helmets, but we were the ONLY ones wearing them. We saw a total of 3 accidents, so please be careful and get a helmet. SAFETY FIRST! Also, we choose to wear flip flops… If you’re doing 20 km on a bike, I would PROBABLY suggest wearing running shoes LOL.
Things to bring: shoes, water, sunblock, sunnies, camera, and snacks.
For lunch you can grab a traditional lunchbox, we grabbed one from an older taiwanese lady located to the left of the train station. In this traditional lunchbox, you got rice, tofu, veggies, and tea eggs. For dessert, grab some ice cream from the street vendor. The ice cream here has been different then back home in Canada- it’s more ICE than CREAM, but they even had twist. :D

Fulong is a great place to get out of the city and relax. We usually try to go to the beach every Sunday, we need some vitamin Sea, and its SUNDAY FUNDAY obviously. The perfect day at Fulong would be riding a bike 9-12ish then hitting the beach from 12-4.

Enjoy the heat

P.S Wear sunblock, the sun is very powerful here;
Even Danielle burns ;) :O
