Keelung Miaokou Night Market
Bring your empty stomachs, your friends, and your wallet and may the odds be ever in your favour.

Our first ever Asian night market visit did not disappoint. We got the opportunity to go to this night market given to us by our teaching company. We went to the night market after our trips to Jiufen and Yehlui Geo Park. What an eventful day! Most tourist go to Jiufen then to Keelung Miaokou Night Market, so be prepared to make your way through a huge crowd of people. **Surprise Surprise** ;)

We arrived around 7 PM and we had only a hour to grab some food and get back on the bus to make our way back to Taipei. Keelung is located at the northeastern coast of Taiwan, it takes about 30 minutes to drive there- (without traffic) or you can take a local train for just about an hour. This night market is very traditionally, it sells lots of cheap seafood dishes. We arrived with empty stomachs and left almost too full to move... Literally. As you make your way through the market, you are surrounded by people, but the sky is filled with a yellow glow coming from the lanterns. Night markets are a great place to do some taste testing- so bring some friends so you can share and try almost all the different dishes available.

Here a list of some of the food we tried:
Eel Soup:
The eel soup was pretty good- The only thing that I had a problem with is that it contained bones... Erks!

Sesame balls:
The sesame balls were delicious- they are white on the outside and black on the inside. They have a bit of an odd texture and the appearance to match but don't let that scare you away, you'll love them! They kind of taste like a bagel LOL. Do not attempt to eat them right away as you will burn the roof of your mouth, just like I did...
Deep Fried Tomato Sandwich:
You have to try the deep fried tomato sandwich! It comes with mayo, and it was great. C'mon it has to be, it is deep friend... I would obviously get this dish again.

Plum Juice (don't know what it was actually called):
We were told we had to try this one juice- and we were pretty excited but it tastes exactly like plum juice and I don't necessary enjoy the taste of plum juice. It was rough to finish.

Squid Balls:
DEEP FRIED SQUID BALLS! AMAZING! I love squid! It is my second favourite seafood besides shrimp. SHORT AND SIMPLE: THESE WERE GREAT, GET THEM!

Spicy Pork Bun with Green Onions:
This dish was extremely spicy, and I am no baby with spicy, I can usually handle da heat but after eating this sandwich, my face turned blood red. I started sweating and it was not pretty. The sandwich was delicious but be warned it is SPICY! Luckily, there was a stand that sold some fresh orange juice right next to it... What a coincidence.

Sugar Coated Tomatoes and Strawberries:
These fruits (and veggies if you think so) were glazed in liquid sugar and served on a stick. There were some others options but most of them had pineapples. **Btw I am obsessed with pineapple-not because it is delicious, I wouldn't know because I'm allergic to it but they are just so cool.

The Keelung Miaokou Market was really fun and you could go many times and try different dishes every time. The stands with the longest line is probably going to be the best dish, so don't worry, the lines move quickly! I would give yourself a little more than a hour to explore but it didn't feel too rush when we went, it actually started pouring so we got out of there.

Bring your biggest appetite and a group of friends to enjoy this night market!
