Kuala Lumpur-
but everyone just says KL.
Hitting it up in Malaysia. The capital city offended referred to as KL. Before I booked my flight to Malaysia… I did not know much about the country, and probably nothing about KL. Maybe I’ve seen a picture of the Petronas Towers, but back in Canada, I don’t really talk about South East Asia. Funny now, I know more news going on here, then back in Canada. Anyways, after our amazing adventure to the magical island of Langkawi, we came back to the city life.
KL- I think I just feel cool when I say “oh yeah, I’ve been to KL.” like, I know what KL means, and I’m cool… well now you do too!
Things we did in Kuala Lumpur:
The Petronas Towers:
The skyscrapers of KL- when I think of Kuala Lumpur, I automatically think of these babies.
They are two gorgeous buildings. So, if you didn't notice Danielle and I like to save money, and we aren’t into paying money to grab a view when maybe we can find a view for free (we did..) We went to the KL towers by taking their MTR system. We tooked some pretty photos and walked through a really nice park. It is crazy how modern this part of the system is. There is even a pool in the park, where you can go swimming. We decided that we were going to find a swimming pool by the end of the day because it was crazy hot.

So after taking some lovely photos at the Petronas Towers, we ventured out to find the Central Market…OKAY. So, we thought we went to the Central Market… but after talking to a local, we realized that we to the Chinatown Market… The Central Market was a block away from the Chinatown market… We kinda figured something was up because the ChinaTown Market.. (I don’t actually know the name) was pretty small. So, if you’re in KL, and hit up the Central Market, please send us a message about how it was. Some travellers told us that the Central Market was lots of clothes. Luckily, we did some shopping in Langkawi, where the clothes are even cheaper. So if you’re heading to Langkawi after KL, wait it out, it’s worth it.
We were walking around and stumbled across the Sri Mahamariamman Temple. This is one of the oldest Hindu temple in KL. We payed about 10 Malaysian Ringgit, gave in our shoes, got a pair of pants and went into the temple. It was super cool. I love how colourful and decorative the temples are in Asia. It was a nice little spot on our walk.
After we went to the “Central Market” and the Sri Mahamariamman Temple, we decided to find some sky bars with some infinity pools! I read a pretty cool blog before leaving for Malaysia about these infinity pools and how to sneak in for free. Our favourite word: Free. So the first sky bar with a pool we went to is : SkyBar and pool at Trader’s Hotel. Okay, so we went up… not wearing anything fancy, a dress and flip flops actually. We ordered a few drinks and then attempted to get into the pool. So, we got into the pool, quick five swimming cooling off, taking some pictures, and relaxing. Until the lifeguard came out and asked if we were staying in the hotel and said that rooms were more than we could afford…. We finished our drinks (in no hurry) and went to the next bar. It was starting to get dark and which meant another sky view was coming.

Next stop was The pool at Regalia Residences. This was a huge success!!! Everyone such a great great spot. I was speechless. The other thing we forgot to bring was our own drinks and it would have been perfect. So here’s what happens. We get into our uber leaving the SkyBar. We arrived at the Regalia Residences, and we hop into the elevator. Someone enter the elevator with us, and luckily he swiped his card and asked what floor. I don't know if you can normally access the 37th floor, since there is the pool and the restaurant. So, once you get up the 37th floor, you pass the restaurant and then you walk and see a security guard. UHHH OHHH I know… we were reading to give a random room number… but LUCKILY again, this security guard just buzzed and let us in. and then we were there to enjoy the views for as long as we want… I actually don’t know when the place closes but it was amazing. I recommend it to everyone, bring some snacks and some drinks and enjoy these views!!!!!!!! If you are nervous about sneaking in, you can get an Airbnb in the building.
The next day, we went to the Batu Caves. The Batu Caves are a holy Hindu site just outside the city of KL. The caves are actually made of limestone which is around 400 million years old. Before reaching the caves, you need to pass a punch of monkeys…
The Monkey Story:
So, Danielle’s camera has been acting up lately and just dying. And she blames this whole situation on her camera… being as if it didn’t die, she wouldn’t have had to open her bag and the monkey wouldn’t have “smelled” the kiwis…. Just as this is about to happen, our Taiwanese friend is saying “ohh, I read somewhere that the monkeys were mean”....
So, she opens her bag and the monkeys come quickly to grab the kiwis (which we had since Taiwan, so we’ve been carrying these kiwis for 4 days now…). Danielle does the smartest thing… she tosses the kiwis my way, and the monkeys turn directions towards me. I had no interests in fighting off monkeys for 4 kiwis, so I blocked the pass and shot the plastic bag containing the goods to the ground. The monkey grabbed the kiwi within seconds and were gone to enjoy the sweet fruits.
The Monkey Story

Okay. So if you successfully make it pass the monkeys. You will reach the Batu Caves. In Front of the caves is a statue of Murugan, a Hindu deity, it is actually the tallest statue of Murugan in the world. It is 140 feet high, wow. Once into the caves, you get a sense of lightness… I don’t exactly know, but I get this sense whenever I am in a sacred place. And this is definitely a sacred place. The temple cave is at the top of the stairs, and contains Hindu shrines. Before you reach the tops, you walk by the Gallery Cave and Museum Cave. You can go on tours, where you see the interest fauna and flora… There are many bats and many different species of spiders. Caves are pretty cool because they have their own ecological systems that differs to other ecosystems. If you want an educational tour, or an adventurous tour, stop at the other caves. I’m sure you will learn a thing or two, and if you love spiders and bats, unlike me, go for it. Just a quick side note that girls have to wear pants to get into the temple because it is a Hindu temple and just like the other one we went to in KL, you can get a pair of pants right outside. This one was a little more of a tourists catch because you had to put a deposit, which they said you got back… but you only got 50% of your money back… so, if you really like your pants… I would just keep them ;)
We only had a few days in KL, we definitely need to plan an adventure back to Malaysia. We will need to stop in KL to go to the actual Central Market. I loved the city, I loved how easily accessible everything was; he MTR, or the train, or the uber. Uber's are super cheap by the way. The city has a great vibe and I would definitely live there if I had a chance in the future.
Thank you KL, for great times with great views.
P.s I have been reading “What I was doing while you were breeding” so that might have impacted my writing style this blog post.
