Shrimping in Taipei

If you like shrimp then you will love shrimping.

On a Saturday morning, we got picked up and rode on the back of a scooter to a place just outside the city, close to the mountains.  This place was a shrimp pool.  There were two pools, one for male shrimps and one for females.  The female shrimps are smaller but less expensive. (So we choose that option)  The prices of the shrimp places depends on the location, it is usually cheaper outside the city however it is less accessible by public transit.  You can rent a rod for 3 hours; where you try to catch as much shrimp as possible.  To catch these shrimp, you use tiny shrimps.  HOW MORBID! There were 4 of us, so after 3 hours we caught about 42 shrimp. You can BBQ them right there, and also purchase drinks and other dishes- we ordered beer, fish, rice, and fries.  The place we went to also offered fishing-where you can leisurely fish while enjoying the views of the mountains, however you cannot eat the fish you catch!

Some fun facts:

- The rods have 2 hooks on them, if you catch a shrimp on each hook,

you get a free drink! We witnessed a pro do this!

-There is shrimp bingo- some of the shrimp have number tags on them

and if you catch one that completes a row, you get two free drinks!!

***These facts apply to the shrimp pool we went to,

if you want to know the exact location, send us a message.

I am unsure if it applied to all shrimp pools

but if you plan on going-just ask the person in charge- locals are very friendly.

I recommend going when it's a rainy day,

if you choose to go to a location close to the mountains,

I would bring bug spray.

Updates: It's officially June!  The countdown for summer has begun!
