Whatcha think about China Emily???

Wow- so before I went to China- I wrote my thoughts about the foreign country in my journal:

I thought I would share what I wrote in my journal with you :

January 18th 2017:

Tomorrow, Danielle and I are leaving for 2 weeks in China.  We will be going to all these different places.  I don’t really know what to expect… China always felt so foreign and so distant, but now we will be there in the next couple of days.  I am worried, but I know it will be an adventure.  The good and the bad.  We sure need a vacation.

And that was a short little entry where you can kind of grasp my thoughts about the country.  I did not know too much about the history or the Chinese culture.  I knew that China meant a lot of people.  I knew about Chinese food at home… like at the Mandarin   I think the best thing about going on this trip was that I had an open mind and no clear expectations.

That being said.  I did not completely LOVE China, but I did not completely HATE China.  I think I did about a sliver of China…. The country is so big and has SOOOO much history.  There is no way, I am going to be able to understand all of it.  I feel happy that I got to visit some of the big landmarks of China-  like the Great Wall, the Terracotta Warriors, the Panda, etc.  I would absolutely go back, maybe in the spring so it would be a little warmer but still less people.  The hostels in China were super cool.  All of them had tours, activities, outside terraces, and events. The only problem with the hostels were the Staff… Most of the time when Danielle and I would ask “Hey, We have some free time, what do you recommend doing?”.. They wouldn’t know how to answer. I wish the hostel staff would give us a “local” thing to do, or dish to try.

I would absolutely go back to China, and maybe this time for longer and a little bit less of a schedule.  Danielle were pressed in time and wanted to do a TON of stuff.  This was great because we knew exactly what we were doing, but had its downfalls when we saw a new opportunity come up and we couldn’t fit it in our schedule…

If only we didn't have to go back to work….

Anyways, if you’re planning a trip to China.

Here is some advice…

Go in with an open mind-  set a few expectations if even some.

People will stare at you, and people will ask you to take your picture

THERE ARE PEOPLE EVERYWHERE. SO MANY PEOPLE

Go places in the morning- Chinese People like to sleep in??

Language barrier………………………….. Be patient.

Enjoy the country!!!!  Be happy, be positive :)

I hope you enjoy China.  It is truly unique and beautiful!  I will be going back!  Still so much left to see!

Until next time.
