Wu Liao Jian Mountain Hike

This is not your ordinary hike,

it might be a typical hike for the Taiwanese people but back home in Canada where we can't even have slides in our playgrounds, this would be marked as too"dangerous".

So, we got a late start to our day and left our apartment around 10 AM. We took the MRT all the way down the Blue line, to Yongning station, then you should can take a bus to Sanxia (where there are buses that go to the Trail Head but we did not take that path.) It is best to take a taxi just from Yongning Station, because it is hard to find a taxi from Sanxia.  You can take a taxi to Hezuo Bridge.

To get home we waiting for the bus, simply because there an other man waiting, so we assumed he knew it was coming.  We got on the bus and it lead us straight to the MTR stop; Yongning Station.  If you know where you are going then it is easy to get there. Maybe try to find a local to take you?

Maybe try to find a local to take you? I have attached a photo of the trail entrance- which is right next to convenience store.  We got a little lost, as usually so here is a photo for you.

We finally found the right path and after climbing some steps, you reach ropes you have to climb up for several meters that eventually leads to kilometers.  At times, it felt more like rock climbing than an actually hike.

It is quite a workout.  You also get very muddy and dirty because you are climbing on all 4s.  Lots of Taiwanese people wear gardeners clothes in order to grip the ropes without getting blisters.

The views that you get on the way up are very disrupted due to the trees.  Once you make it all the way, you will reach an exposed ridge, where you can scream at the top of your lungs "I MADE IT".

If you want an adventurous Saturday, challenging yourself and seeing a beautiful view of Taiwan, go on the hike.  It will be tough and you will get dirty, but it will be totally worth it.  You will feel very accomplished!!

Going up, down, side to side, using greasy slippery ropes, rock climbing and swinging around!  It is fairy safe, just be cautious, and make good decisions

Tips:

1. GO EARLY- we wasted so much time in the morning, should have gotten an early start

2. Take the MRT and then take the taxi.... its the easier way, you can take the bus on the way back

3. Bring water

4. Bring snacks

5. Bring gloves (prevent rope burn and blisters)

6. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND GOING WHEN IT IS WINDY OR RAINY.

The weather plays a factor in safety and security and since this mountain requires a lot of energy and is far away from the populated area- you do not want to go when the weather is unpredictable- landslides can wash you down the mountain and winds can blow you off.  BE SAFE.
